Who we

The Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government and is here for the community of Yarnton.

Up to ten Councillors serve on the Parish Council and give their time. Click here to see the list of our members.

The Parish Council normally meet on the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of August when there is no meeting. All meetings are held in Yarnton Village Hall and begin at 6.30pm. Click here to visit our meetings page and find out more.

Public accountability

Governance and accountability for parish councils involves ensuring that public money is used properly, and that public business is conducted in a lawful and appropriate manner. 

Parish councils are required to demonstrate their compliance with legal and financial regulations, and to be transparent with their constituents. Parish Council governance documents set out how the council will operate within its discretionary powers.

Public funding

Parish Councils are funded from the Precept, which is a tax, included within the Council Tax paid by residents to Cherwell District Council, which enables the Parish Council to perform its functions.

Annual Parish Meeting

Each year, between March 1 and June 1 the Parish Council hold an Annual Parish Meeting which is open to all residents to attend.

The Annual Parish Meeting is an open forum for registered electors of Yarnton to discuss local issues and have your say on parish affairs. The APM is a chance for the Parish Council to explain its activities and plans for the year, and for residents to raise concerns and ask questions. Anyone can attend the meeting, but only registered electors can speak and vote.

Attend a Council meeting

On the second Wednesday of each month the Parish Council meets to make decisions about issues related to Yarnton. You'd be welcome to attend.

Book a meeting with the Parish Clerk

If you'd like to meet with the Clerk to the Council, you can book a meeting by sending an email with your address and contact details.

Every four years, the Parish Council holds a vote for its members. Have your say about who represents you by voting.
